Hughes delight with win

Blackburn boss Mark Hughes was pleased his side were able to battle from going a goal behind to secure a 2-1 win over Derby.

Roque Santa Cruz and David Bentley scored after Derby had gone ahead through Matt Oakley.

Rovers were relieved to see Derby miss a penalty when they were 1-0 down, but Hughes was happy with his team.

"There was shades of the last few games but once again we have shown great character, a great response from us and we got into the lead for the first time for many weeks and I think in the end that relaxed us and enabled us to see the game out," he told Sky Sports.

"We had a number of chances and could have finished it off earlier but there is always a threat if they hit a long ball in the box and until the whistle goes you are never sure but we are delighted with that win."

Bentley praise

Hughes was full of praise for Man of the Match Bentley - and he suggested that was party down to their decision to withdraw him from the England squad for last's summer European Under-21 Championship.

"He is playing exceptionally well at the moment, you can see in his general play and the influence he is having on the game," he said.

"In the summer we made the decision for the benefit of David he needed to get some rest because he had a hard season and now we are reaping the benefits and David is as well."
